This is a house for a group that wants to be together. Old wood and raw stone, six bedrooms each with its own bathroom, and a main floor where kitchen, dining table and living room are one open space rather than three separate rooms. Les Fermes de Val is a hamlet of a few houses, quiet in a way the village is not, and the slopes start outside the door.
Description
The bedrooms run along the upper floor, each with a bathroom, and most can be set as a king-size double or two twins on request, so the layout can be arranged around who is actually travelling. Downstairs is where the house earns its keep: the kitchen looks onto the dining table, the dining table onto the living room, and a stone fireplace sits at the centre of all of it. Raclette and fondue kit in the drawer for the nights nobody wants to go out.
Below the living floor there is a heated indoor pool and a hammam, both big enough for a proper afternoon rather than a quick dip. Skis are fitted in the chalet rather than in a queue at a shop, and the ski locker and boot warmers sit by the door. You can come off the slopes and be in the pool within minutes, without going outside again.
Val d'Isère is a short walk down, with 300 kilometres of the Espace Killy from the door and Bellevarde above. How much gets handled for you is a choice. Premium brings a concierge and a butler who makes breakfast each morning, along with a driver within the village and something hot and sweet waiting when everyone comes off the mountain. Prestige adds a chef for five dinners and keeps the driver running into the evening. Winter stays are Sunday to Sunday, late November to early May, and the chalet opens again in July and August.
