Le Papillon is the one for families: four bedrooms, one of them a suite that takes two adults and two children in bunks. It sits at the foot of the Bellevarde slopes, a short walk from the centre of Val d'Isère. Old wood and stone, a half-Savoyard, half-modern build, and big windows facing the peaks. The slopes are reachable in a short walk.
Description
The living room rises the full height of the chalet, beams overhead and a wall of windows that brings the mountain right in. A wood fireplace sits in the lounge, a games table off to one side and a mezzanine above. Three of the four bedrooms are doubles, each with its own bathroom, most set as a king or twins. The fourth is a family suite, a double with a bunk corner for two children, and its own bathroom too.
The spa has a heated pool with jets and a mosaic-tiled hammam, for the ache after a day out. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a wine cellar, ceramic hobs and a Nespresso machine. A ski room with a locker and boot warmers holds the kit by the door, and skis are fitted here rather than in a queue at a shop. There is parking at the chalet.
Val d'Isère is a short walk from the door, its shops and restaurants busy through the season, with 300 kilometres of the Espace Killy beyond. Service comes in two tiers. Premium brings a concierge, a butler who makes breakfast and lays the fire, and a driver in the village. Prestige adds a private chef for five dinners and a driver into the evening. Winter runs Sunday to Sunday, late November to early May, open again in July and August.
