The museums of Ibiza, and the one that is shut

Which of the island's museums are actually open, and the two that are not, with what each one holds.

Ibiza has about nine museums and interpretation centres open to visitors, most of them in Ibiza Town and several inside the Dalt Vila walls. Older guides count ten by including the archaeological museum, which has been closed since 2010, so we have set out the ones you can walk into. We have grouped them by area so you can build a morning round the ones near you.

Inside Dalt Vila

MACE, the contemporary art museum, sits in the bastion of Sant Joan in a 1727 armoury. It was founded in 1969 and opens Tuesday to Sunday, mornings plus most afternoons, with longer afternoons in summer.

Museu Puget, in the Can Comasema house on Carrer Major, is run as part of MACE and holds the work of Narcis Puget Vinas and his son Narcis Puget Riquer, who painted Ibiza through the twentieth century.

Madina Yabisa on Carrer Major, opposite the cathedral, covers the island's Islamic period and includes the inside of a tower of the Arab fortress.

Espai Santa Fac is a small chapel space with irregular hours, and the Museu Diocesa beside the cathedral holds religious art and has opened intermittently in recent years. Check both before making a trip for them.

Below the walls

Puig des Molins on Via Romana is the necropolis, the best-preserved Punic burial ground in the western Mediterranean, with a museum attached. It opens Tuesday to Sunday. Since the Dalt Vila site closed, this is where the archaeological collections are shown.

Sa Capelleta, between Dalt Vila and Puig des Molins, reopened in 2025 after refurbishment and covers the Punic, late Roman and Islamic periods.

Casa Broner in Sa Penya is the house and studio of the architect Erwin Broner, open all year except Mondays and holidays.

Outside the town

Can Ros, the ethnographic museum, sits on Puig de Missa above Santa Eulalia and holds farming and fishing tools, traditional dress and jewellery. It opens from April to September.

Sala Barrau in Santa Eulalia shows Laurea Barrau's Ibiza paintings, weekday mornings only. The Centre d'Interpretacio del Mar occupies the old lighthouse at San Antonio and covers fishing, navigation and shipwrecks.

The two that are closed

The archaeological museum in Dalt Vila has been shut since 2010 with structural and damp problems. As of mid-2026 about three quarters of the restoration work was still outstanding and no reopening date has been set. The only way in is an occasional pre-booked guided visit to the restored chapel of Sant Salvador.

Casa Colom is listed as temporarily closed with no date.
