Bar Llumbi sits on the square at Es Cubells, next to the church, on the cliff above the south coast. It opened in 1958 and the same family still runs it, now into a third generation, and the room looks more or less as it always has.
That is the point of it. Es Cubells is a clifftop village with a church, a view to Formentera and very little else, and Llumbi is what the village eats in.
What to order
Grilled squid is the dish people come back for, either plain off the grill or done Roman style. Beyond that it is fresh fish and meat, cooked simply, on a menu short enough to read in a minute.
There is no tasting menu and no wine list to study, because it is a bar that feeds people.
When it is open

It used to open only at weekends through the winter. It now runs year round, closing for about a month's holiday, which makes it one of the more dependable addresses on this side of the island out of season.
Good to know
The square is the car park. It sits beside the main Es Cubells parking, so unlike most of the south coast you can simply arrive.
The view is from the village, not the table. Walk the thirty seconds to the cliff edge by the church before or after.
It is a village bar. Come for the squid and the room, not for a scene.
