Cala Llonga evening market: Thursdays in season

A small artisan market on the promenade on Thursday evenings from May to October, once the beach has gone into shade.

The evening market at Cala Llonga runs on Thursdays from May to October, from about 18:00 until 22:30, along the promenade behind the beach. It is small and it is artisan rather than wholesale, which is the point of going.

It exists because of the shape of the day in a beach village. The sand empties at six, the restaurants do not fill until nine, and the market sits in the gap with the light going gold off the cliffs on either side of the bay.

What is on it

Handmade jewellery, ceramics, leather, soaps and candles, printed cloth, and a run of stalls doing children's things. Perhaps thirty or forty tables rather than hundreds. Most of the sellers are working on the island rather than touring the markets, so the overlap with Las Dalias and Punta Arabí is smaller than you would expect.

There is usually somebody playing, and the bars along the promenade put tables out, so the market and dinner run into each other without a decision being needed.

Who it suits

This is the easiest market on the island to do with small children, because it is flat, short, lit, and ends at a beach with a playground rather than in a field. It is also the one that works if the day has been spent on the sand and nobody wants to drive anywhere.

It is not the market to come across the island for. If you are staying in the north or the west, the Thursday evening market at San Rafael is the closer version of the same idea.

Quick answers

What day is the Cala Llonga market? Thursday, from May to October.

What time? Roughly 18:00 to 22:30.

Is it open in winter? No. May to October only.

How big is it? Small, thirty or forty stalls, and half an hour covers it.

Is it free? Yes.

Is there parking? Yes, in the village behind the promenade, though it is tight in August.

Where it sits

Cala Llonga is a sheltered bay about ten minutes south of Santa Eulalia and twenty from Ibiza Town, between two steep wooded headlands. The beach is sand with shallow water, which is why the village is as family-heavy as it is.
