Casa Jondal: the beach kitchen at Cala Jondal

Oct 9, 2026Author: One of a Kind Travel2 min

Rafa Zafra's kitchen on the pebbles at Cala Jondal, cooking seafood with as little done to it as possible.

Casa Jondal sits on the pebbles at Cala Jondal, on the south coast, and it is the restaurant that changed what a chiringuito on Ibiza could be. The chef is Rafa Zafra, who came from elBulli. The cooking is seafood with as little done to it as possible: prawns, oysters, whole fish, caviar if you want it.

It took Tapas Magazine's best chiringuito award for 2026, which is roughly the level the place is operating at.

Getting a table

This is the hard part. Bookings go through WhatsApp and email rather than a form, and in July and August tables are gone weeks ahead. Our advisors can take it on if you tell them the dates.

Lunch is the service, and it runs long into the afternoon and evening.

What to expect

Tables on the pebbles, a few metres from the water, with boats anchored off the bay in front of you. The room is informal and the food is not, which is the tension the place runs on.

Order fish and shellfish. The menu moves with what the boats brought in.

Good to know

It is seasonal. Roughly May to mid-October.

Cala Jondal is pebbles, so bring something for your feet if you plan to swim before lunch.

It is listed by some guides simply as Jondal. Same restaurant, not a second one.
