Mercado Cala Llenya: Sundays on the beach

Oct 9, 2026Author: One of a Kind Travel2 min

A Sunday market behind a beach on the east coast, with live music from the middle of the day and somewhere to swim while you wait for it.

The market at Cala Llenya runs on summer Sundays from 11:00 to 17:00, on the ground just behind the beach on the east coast. It is small, and the reason to come is that it sits between a swim and a band rather than in a field on its own.

It falls somewhere between the flea market at San Jordi and the big hippy markets. The sellers lean towards the people who have been making things on the island for years rather than the wholesale end, which is what gives it the reputation it has among people who live here.

The music, and the shape of the day

Live sets start at about 12:30 and run through the afternoon: cover bands, rock, gypsy music, and often somebody dancing flamenco in front of the stage who was not booked to. There is a restaurant on the site, so lunch does not need planning.

The useful shape is a swim first, the market and lunch in the middle of the day, and the music for as long as it holds. By five it is packing up.

The beach

Cala Llenya is a wide sandy bay with shallow water, which makes it one of the easier east-coast beaches with children. It faces east, so the sun comes off it in the late afternoon, which suits a market day: by the time the bands are going the sand is in shade.

Worth knowing

Cala Llenya is about fifteen minutes north of Santa Eulalia and close enough to Es Canar that the Wednesday market at Punta Arabí and this one can both be reached from the same base. Of the two, this is the one to come to for the afternoon rather than the shopping.

The rest of the island's markets, by day, are in our guide to the hippy markets in Ibiza.
