S'Escalinata: a bar on the steps of Dalt Vila

Oct 9, 2026Author: One of a Kind Travel2 min

A bar whose terrace is a stone staircase, with cushions on the steps instead of tables.

S'Escalinata is on Carrer del Portal Nou, on one of the stone staircases inside the walls of Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town. The terrace is the staircase: coloured cushions, beanbags and low stools on the steps, with drinks brought out to wherever you have landed.

There are no conventional tables and no reservations. You climb up, you find a step, and that is the evening.

What to drink

Cocktails, fresh juices and a short list of tapas. The mojitos are what most people are holding.

It is a first-drink or a last-drink sort of place rather than a dinner, and it works best in the hour either side of dusk when the light is on the walls above.

Getting there

The easiest approach is the tunnel beside Plaça Reina Sofia and then straight up the stairs. From the port it is five minutes on foot, all of it uphill.

No reservations, so arriving early on a summer evening is the only way to get the step you want.

Good to know

It opens daily, from mid-morning until one or two in the morning.

Sitting on stone is the format. Bring something you do not mind putting on the ground.

It is a climb. Not one for anyone unsteady on steps.
