Five farm restaurants on Ibiza that grow what they serve

Five places where the vegetables come from the field you can see from the table, spread from Santa Eulalia to the hills above the town.

Farm to table is a phrase most Ibizan menus use and few of them earn. These five do: each one has land, and what comes out of it is what turns up on the plate, which is why their menus change through the season rather than through the year. We have grouped them by area so you can find the one nearest to where you are staying.

They are inland places, which means a drive from the coast and a table booked in advance.

Can Muson, Santa Eulalia

An ecological finca and school farm on the road from Santa Eulalia towards Cala Llonga, with animals, a shop and an outdoor restaurant among the fields. Breakfast is the thing here: eggs, avocado, smoothies and fruit that came out of the ground behind the tables.

It is open every day of the year from nine in the morning, which makes it one of the few places on this list that works in February. Children can walk round the farm while the adults finish.

A Mi Manera, San Lorenzo

A restored finca on the San Juan road near San Lorenzo, with the vegetable garden in view from the tables. It cooks Mediterranean food from what the garden gives it, and the setting is the reason people book rather than the menu.

Lunch and dinner, through the season.

Casa Maca, above Ibiza Town

In the hills a few minutes above Ibiza Town, with its own organic farm on the site. The evening is the one to take: the grill is open fire, and meat, fish and the farm's own vegetables hang over it in the open air with the town lights below.

It is the closest thing on this list to the town, and the only one you could reach in a taxi.

Aubergine by Atzaro, San Miguel road

Between Santa Gertrudis and San Miguel, in the middle of the island. The kitchen takes its vegetables from the estate garden daily, so the menu moves with what is ready rather than with what was printed.

It is the most polished of the five and the easiest to get a table at midweek.

La Paloma, San Lorenzo

Tables among citrus trees in the garden of an old finca at San Lorenzo, with a kitchen that works from its own vegetable garden and the farms around it. The cooking is Mediterranean with Italian and Middle Eastern edges.

It is the best known of the five and the hardest to get into through the summer, so book further ahead than feels necessary.
