Cala Llonga sits on the east coast about eleven kilometres from Ibiza Town and seven from Santa Eulalia, which is roughly twenty minutes and ten. The bay is deep and steep-sided with pine on both slopes, and the village sits at the head of it.
It is purpose-built and unashamedly a family place, with hotels and apartments along a promenade of bars and restaurants. There is a supermarket, a chemist, a playground, an outdoor gym and a tourist train.
The beach
About 180 metres long and a hundred wide, fine pale sand, and shallow water a long way out. There are lifeguards, sunbeds and parasols, and foot showers.
An amphibious wheelchair is available from mid-June to mid-September, which is worth knowing because few beaches on the island offer it.
The parking, which is the unexpected part
Two free public car parks, a small one at the entrance and a large one at the far end. On an island where beach parking is generally a paid scramble, this is a genuine reason to choose it in August.
Getting about without a car
Summer ferries run from the beach to Es Canar, Santa Eulalia, Ibiza Town and Formentera, so a week here does not have to involve driving at all.
Golf Ibiza at Roca Llisa, the island's only course, is three kilometres away.
