Cala d'Hort is a modest beach with an immodest view. It sits on the south-west coast facing Es Vedra, the limestone rock that rises 413 metres out of the sea about two and a half kilometres offshore. That view is the reason the beach is as well known as it is.
Otherwise it is a couple of hundred metres of sand mixed with shingle, with fishermen's huts at one end and restaurants along the back, and water that is clear and calm in most conditions.
The view, and when to see it
The rock faces west, so it is flat and grey in the middle of the day and does what it is famous for in the last hour before sunset. People stay on the sand for it rather than driving up to the clifftop, and the restaurants fill accordingly.
For the higher view, the Torre des Savinar clifftop is ten minutes up the road, and the old quarry below it is Sa Pedrera, the place people call Atlantis.
What is there

Sunbeds and parasols, showers, and three or four restaurants at the back of the beach, of which Es Boldado on the cliff above is the one with the view. Parking is free, on the hill behind, and it fills early in high season.
Good to know
The sand is coarse and mixed with shingle in places, so it is more comfortable with something on your feet. The beach is small and it does fill: in August, arriving after eleven usually means the far end or the rocks.
