Es Boldado: paella on the cliff above Cala d'Hort

On the cliff above Cala d'Hort with the best-known view on the island, cooking paella for over thirty years.

Es Boldado sits on the cliff above Cala d'Hort, looking straight at Es Vedra. It is the most photographed lunch on Ibiza and it has been run by the same family for over thirty years, which is the part that matters.

The cooking is paella and seafood, done in the traditional way and in quantity. Ibizan families book it for Sunday, which is the best recommendation a restaurant on this island can have.

Getting there

A rough unsurfaced track runs off the Cala d'Hort road along the cliff. It is short and slow and perfectly driveable, and the parking at the end is limited.

The beach car park below fills early in summer, so arriving at one o'clock in August means parking a long way down.

Booking

Essential. Sunday lunch is booked out well ahead through the season, and the tables with the view go first.

Service runs at lunch and again in the evening. Lunch is when the view does its work; the evening is when the sun goes down behind the rock.

Good to know

It is a long lunch. Rice is cooked to order and takes as long as it takes.

The view is the reason, so ask for a terrace table rather than the room.

Winter dates are not published. Check before driving out of season.
